Learning to drive with Southampton Driving School was a relaxing experience asit was very professional in the way i was taught to drive; my instructor was very friendly and approachable which gave me the confidence that I needed to pass first time.

I actually enjoyed learning to drive I think this was because I managed to drive all across the area we went to many different areas and driving in these different environments helped me learn many different road systems and prepared me for the road once I passed.

Southampton Driving School is very proud to be teaching people to drive in the whole of Hampshire.

Every Southampton Driving School driving instructor displays a green DSA (Driving Standards Agency) badge in their windscreen to prove they've completed 12 to 18 months (on average) of training, and passed an exam testing their ability to teach you.

If your shopping around ask if the instructor is fully qualified ir a trainee, also check that there's a green badge in the windscreen of your instruction car. This means your instructor is fully-qualified.

Some driving schools place learners with a trainee instructor - with a pink DSA badge, and still charge full lesson rates without revealing that the instructor isn't fully qualified.

The Buy With Confidence Scheme is not easy to join, here is what Hampshire Trading Standards has to say about entry requirements:

In order to become a Buy With Confidence member, a business must first apply or be recommended to join the scheme and must then pass a set of tailored background checks. Membership of the scheme is not given lightly – amongst other checks, each applicant will have their complaints history reviewed and will receive a visit from Trading Standards. Good references are required from previous customers and applicants must agree to abide by the scheme's code of conduct, which requires them to follow the letter and spirit of the law. Criminal records disclosure may also be required in some circumstances.

Only if all the scheme requirements are met, will a business be granted membership, and their conduct will continue to be monitored thereafter. We cannot promise that Buy With Confidence members' work will be perfect every time, but you can expect any problems to be dealt with fairly by the business, and you can turn to Trading Standards for advice in the event of an unresolved issue.

Southampton Driving School does not use Trainees as their ability to give correct and properly structured lessons is untested.

Recent statistics show that up to 61% of pupils are taught by trainees. Do you want a traineee teaching you or your child to drive?

Driving Instructors are graded on instructional ability from a grade 1 (the lowest), to a grade 6 (the highest). A grade six is acheived by only 1.29% of the 44,000 driving instructors in the country.
